An article at Archives.gov tells the real story of the Von Trapps, which is quite different from the portrayal in The Sound of Music. Among the discrepancies are the number of children (the film has seven children instead of ten), Maria's role (her assignment was to teach one child in the Von Trapp family), and Georg Von Trapp's nature (who actually loved music).
